This educational augmented reality app, developed by the University of Florida's Lastinger Center for Learning and its partners, supports elementary school literacy. The platform leverages a smartphone camera to project interactive 3D environments, such as a virtual aquarium, into the user's physical space. It facilitates learning through themed mini-games, including vocabulary-building fishing, bubble pop quizzes, and creative coloring activities that transform 2D drawings into 3D models, connecting digital engagement with book themes.

• The app was created to support the New Worlds Reading Initiative, a state program addressing the literacy gap for Florida students.

Intended Use & Scope

AR Expeditions is designed for third to fifth-grade students in Florida, particularly those eligible for the New Worlds Reading Initiative who are not yet reading at grade level. The app functions as a supplementary educational tool to augment the program's free book distribution, aiming to foster reading motivation and engagement for students and their families.
