The Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Auburn University developed Farming Basics to serve small and beginning farmers by providing comprehensive agricultural information through a smartphone application, with a major update released in 2022. "The most exciting part of the new app is the reorganization of the materials, creating a one-stop shop for specialty crop producers," said Ayanava Majumdar, coordinator of the Alabama Extension Alabama Beginning Farmer program. The updated app includes rapid communication tools like push alerts and social media integration, available as a free download on iOS and Android devices.
